Port Harcourt is next on 14th &15th October with Nigga Raw & more!
You
could call it a festival of talent as young Nigerians in Abuja and from
neighbouring states came out to compete for the $100, 000 prize that
comes with winning Season II of Nigerian Idol – the auditions seek to
find shortlisted candidates who go to Lagos and battle to make the list
of 10 Finalists on the show.
Held
on two days – Friday and Saturday – the halls were packed full in the
morning, with registration going all day and even more entrant trooping
in till late; getting joyful ‘yes-es’, sad ‘nos’ and some wrenching
‘maybes’.
Day 2 came with a twist as Lead sponsor Etisalat staged a free concert for the eager young people to get a taste of the stardom and the energy – headlined by rapper Naeto C and including rave artistes Olamide, Jahbless, DJ Zeez and Deejay Neptune. No one wanted to leave!
“It
was an exciting time,” said international choreographer Jeffrey Daniel,
one of the judges. “And you can understand why – this is the real deal;
connecting with a global platform that has made stars across the world.
We focused on helping Nigeria’s amazing young music talent ignite their
dreams and seeing some amazing performers is what this is all about.
The talent was magical and Abuja was exciting.”
The Nigerian Idol audition train now makes its way into Port Harcourt for two days as the Hotel Presidential plays host to the Nigerian Idol auditions on 14 and 15 October.
“Based
on the applications, we are frankly ready for a deluge in Port
Harcourt,” project manager, Chichi Nwoko said. “The registrations are
pouring in, but that’s exactly what it’s about – the more talented young
people enter the competition, the more we have a change to choose some
of Nigeria’s best next stars to thrill the audience and the public over
the next magical months of the show.”
The
Idol franchise is represented in continents across the world, from
America to Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Africa. The show is the
most popular musical show in history
churning out globally recognised stars like Ruben Stoddard and Jennifer
Hudson. The next Nigerian Idol will join the ranks of Yeka Onka who
won Season I of the show.
